본 연구는 부마민주항쟁에 관한 텔레비전 다큐멘터리 서사 내용 변화를 화면 분석을 통해 살펴보는 연구이다. 특히 본 연구는 역사적 사건을 재현하는 텔레비전 다큐멘터리의 서사가 설명적 서술에서 기억적 해석으로 변화하는 과정을 각기 다른 시기에 제작된 텔레비전 다큐멘터리를 비교하여 분석하였다. 방법론은 기존의 질적 분석 방법 대신 양적인 심층학습 기반 이미지 클러스터링 기법을 활용하였다. KBS와 MBC의 다큐멘터리 6편을 대상으로 이미지 클러스터링을 통해 추출한 화면의 분포를 분석한 결과, 당시 현장 화면과 상황 재현에 치중된 기록 중심의 다큐멘터리 화면이, 이후 군부 움직임과 인터뷰 중심의 해석적 기억을 강조하는 방향으로 진화해 나간 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 변화는 KBS와 MBC 모두에게 발견되었으며 특히 MBC에서 이러한 변화가 크게 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 단일 주제에 대한 긴 시기의 서로 다른 공영방송 텔레비전 다큐멘터리가 해석적 기억으로 진화해 나간 것을 확인한 의의가 있다. 또한 해석의 영역에 머물던 영상 분석을 객관화된 화면 분석 형식으로 가져와 다큐멘터리의 서사 내용 변화를 분석했다는 의의가 있다. 또한 본 연구는 사회적 기억의 재현 및 형성 과정에 대한 이해를 증진시키는 데 기여하는 의의를 가진다.
Abstract
This study examines the long-term changes in the narrative content of television documentaries about the Busan-Masan Democratic Uprising through screen analysis. It analyzes the process by which how the narrative of documentaries representing historical events has shifted from descriptive narration to interpretive memory, utilizing deep learning-based image clustering techniques instead of traditional qualitative analysis. By analyzing the distribution of frames extracted through image clustering from six documentaries produced by KBS and MBC, the study found that the focus of the documentaries over time evolved from recording on-site visuals and situation reenactments to emphasizing interpretive memories centered on macro political environment and interviews. This change was observed in both KBS and MBC, with MBC showing a more pronounced shift. The findings of this study highlight the significance of confirming long-term changes in public broadcasting documentaries on a single theme using TV programs, and demonstrate that screen analysis can effectively reveal changes in documentary narrative contents. Furthermore it underscores the value of using image clustering methods to enhance understanding of the representation and formation processes of social memory in genres like documentary program.
