Abstract

Based on the KGSS survey data(2010), multicultural perception is classified perceived threat and multicultural acceptance. National identity and social capital are classified on ethnic/civic and closed/opened properties separately. This research finds as following. ① Korean has high social and cultural threat than economic threat. According to the fraternal love, discrimination of countries(developed/undeveloped) and nationalism, there are significant differences in the levels of multicultural acceptance in 7 countries. In the relationships of visiting and friend, koreans have good feelings to the Amercan and European. In the relationships of nations, North Korean Refugee and Korean Chinese have higher than any other nations. While Japanese is high in the relationships of visiting, friends and family, the level of acceptance as nations is the worst in 7 countries. ② National identity has more influenced to perceived threat than social capital in all variables. Especially, social capital has no offset impact on the negative effects of ethnic identity in social and cultural threats. ③ The relative impact of national identity and social capital to the types of multiculturalism has difference by variables. Social capital has more influenced to relationship of acceptance in visiting and friend, National identity has more influenced to relationship of acceptance in nation and family. ④ According to the country of origin, there is difference in the relative impact of national identity and social capital. Social capital has more influenced to acceptance of North Korean Refugee and Korean Chinese than that of national identity, national identity has more influenced to acceptance the other nations than that of social capital. From these results, this paper discusses further efforts for the future multicultural policy process and research implications for further research.
