Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate that the swim training is effective on peripheral blood pressure decrease and eNOS expression increase in pulmonary endothelial cells in NO inhibitor(L-NAME) induced hypertensive rats. Methods: Sprague-Dawley (n=40) rats were divided into 4 groups as follows: (1) control group (n=10, Con), (2) L-NAME treatment group(n=10, L-Con), (3) L-NAME treatment and swim group (n=10, L-swim) (4) Swim training group (n=10, swim). The animals were treated with L-NAME hypertension inducing agent, 50 mg/ kg 1 hr before swim and subjected to swim for 30 min. Both L-NAME administration and swim were performed 2 consecutive days followed by 1 day rest and then 3 consecutive days followed by 1 day rest for 8 weeks. The animals were anesthetized and then lungs were rapidly removed and subjected to immunohistochemistry and western blot for eNOS analysis. The body weight of animals was significantly increased (p<.001) in L-NAME and Con groups, while L+swim and Swim group were decreased (p<.001). The blood pressur(BP) was significantly increased(p<.001) in L-NAME treatment. The BP of L-swim was markedly decreased (p<.001) from 5 weeks to 8 weeks. Expression of eNOS was sequentially increased in L-con (28%), L-swim (77.1%), Con group (100%). Particularly, the expression of eNOS in L-swim was markedly increased that in L-con group. In conclusion, regular swim training would induce antihypertensive effect and normal pulmonary vascular endothelial cell function by expressing eNOS.
