Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the antihypertensive effect of swimming training assessing left ventricular type Ⅰcollagen volume & Left ventricular hypertrophy in nitric oxide synthase inhibitor-induced hypertensive rats. This study forty Sprague-Dawley rats aged 8weeks old were assigned to control group (Con: n=10), control+L-NAME group (L-Con: n=10), L-NAME+swimming group(L-Ex: n=10) and swimming group (Ex n=10). Hypertension was induced by injection (I.P) of, Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, 50 mg․kg-1day-1). Animals in swimming groups were subjected to swimming training, 5 day/week with duration of 30 minutes for 8 weeks. Blood pressure, body weight and heart rate were monitored during the session experimental period. The animals were sacrificed at the last day of the 8 weeks thickness of the left ventricular wall and left ventricular type Ⅰcollagen volume were measured. The results of this study showed that induced in heart rate and blood pressure decreased significantly in the L-Exe group compared to the other groups (p<.001). Compared to the other groups, the L-Con group was significantly increased Left ventricular type Ⅰcollagen volume (p<.001). The thickness of the left ventricular wall was decreased in the L-Ex and the Ex groups than in the L-Con group (p<.001) and the Con groups (p<.05). The current finding of the suggest that regular swimming have vasodilatory capacity of the artery and decreased type Ⅰ collagen volume, resulting in prevented left ventricular hypertrophy in L-NAME induced hypertensive rats. In conclusion, swimming training effects by antihypertensive and increased myocardium function.
