전시물 기반학습 참여 아동의 사회적 상호작용에 관한 사례 연구 : 세계광물보석박물관을 중심으로

본 연구는 박물관교육에 활용되는 전시물 중 특히 오감을 활용하여 학습이 가능한 광물 중심의 OBL교 육을 대상으로 하였다. 전시물을 매개로 한 OBL교육을 진행하고 있는 광물전문박물관인 세계광물보 석박물관을 대상으로, 아동과 전시물, 교육 강사 및 또래 아동 등 주변과의 관계에서 나타나는 상호작용 양상에 주목하였다. 교육과정과 내용에는 Vygotsky의 학습이론을 적용함으로써 사회·문화적 관점에서 OBL교육에 참여한 아동들 간의 상호작용을 관찰하였다. 또한, 광물을 소재로 한 교육에 참여한 아동들이 변화해가는 과정을 살폈다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 아동을 대상으로 한 박물관 OBL교육의 유형과 내용을 살펴본 후 세계광물보석박물관의 전시물 기반학습에 대한 연구를 설계하였으며, 초등학교 3~4학년 아동 6명과 세계광물보석박물관 교육 강사를 대상으로 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구는 질적사례연구로서 연구자가 직접 박물관 OBL교육에 참여하여 진행 과정과 연구 대상을 관찰하였고, 연구참여자에 대한 심층인터 뷰를 진행하였다. 세계광물보석박물관의 OBL교육 사례를 통해 확인한 결과, 참여 아동의 상호작용 양상과 그 의미는 첫째, 광물을 직접 대함으로써 학교나 일상에서 체험할 수 없었던 경험을 표현하고, 또래 아동과 함께 체험하며 관계를 형성해 가는 과정을 거친다는 점이다. 둘째, 참여 아동은 다른 아동과 전시물, 그리고 박물관이라는 환경과도 정서적 교감을 하면서 인식의 변화를 겪는다는 점이다. 마지막으로, 참여 아동 간의 상호작용은 경험의 확장과 함께 정서적, 인지적 성장이라는 긍정적 변화로 이어진다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 전시물을 매개로 한 오감 활용 교육은 아동 개인에게 창의성 발휘의 기회를 제공하며, 새로운 시각으로 다른 대상을 인식하며 성장해 갈 수 있도록 한다는 교육적 의미를 확인하 였다.
Abstract
This study delves into the realm of object-based learning (OBL) education, specifically focusing on mineral-oriented OBL education that engages all five senses. The investigation centers on the Museum of Mineral & Gemstone of the World, a museum that leverages objects for OBL education. The primary aim is to scrutinize the interaction dynamics among children, exhibits, educational instructors, and peers of the same age within this educational context. Employing Vygotsky's learning theory as a foundation for the curriculum and content, the research observes the social and cultural aspects of children's interactions during OBL education and examines the transformative process experienced by the participating children. To accomplish the study's objectives, the research first explores the types and contents of OBL education programs tailored for children in museums. Subsequently, a study on Object-Based Learning at the Museum of Mineral & Gemstone of the World is designed and implemented. Six children from the 3rd and 4th grades of elementary school, as well as education instructors from the museum, become the research subjects. This qualitative case study incorporates the researcher's direct involvement in museum OBL education to closely observe the progress and subjects, accompanied by in-depth interviews with the participants. Through an examination of the OBL education case at the Museum of Mineral & Gemstone of the World, several key findings emerge. Firstly, participating children express experiences that transcend the confines of school or daily life by directly engaging with minerals. They share these experiences with their peers, forging new relationships. Secondly, participating children undergo perceptual transformations as they emotionally connect with other children, objects, and the museum environment. Lastly, it is established that interactions among participating children foster positive emotional and cognitive growth, enriching their overall experiential learning. Consequently, education involving all five senses through exhibits holds significant educational value. It provides individual children with opportunities for creative expression and enables them to view and understand other objects from fresh, novel perspectives.
