Abstract

This study examined content planning and space curating strategies for children’s exhibitions, focusing on the “Welcome, You Are the Treasures!” exhibit in the Children’s Experience Room at the National Folk Museum of Korea in Paju. This exhibition was developed as part of a renewal project for the children’s space. The exhibit was designed to provide a play-based experience and support for co-visiting guardians. The space was designed in response to various factors, such as the visitor demographics and available floor area and staff. As implied by the title, the exhibition puts children in the place of artifacts in museum storage to create hands-on, play-based experiences. This design allows children to see themselves as precious artifacts, making the complex and unfamiliar concept of open storage accessible and enjoyable. The space design was inspired by the museum’s main open storage facility tower. Each experience corner was integrated into the overall spatial structure, reflecting the exhibition’s identity as a child-friendly interpretation of an open storage area and supporting children’s activity within a limited space.
