이 논문은 한국어 한정성 범주의 실현 방법을 체계적으로 고찰하는 데 목적을 두었다. 먼저 한정성에 관한 선행연구 성과를 검토해 봄으로써 한정성의 의미적 본질을 살펴보았다. 그리고 의미/화용적인 개념으로서의 한정성이 한국어에서 어떻게 나타나는지 어휘적, 형태적, 통사적, 음운적 등의 차원에서 살펴보았다. 한정성의 의미적 본질에 관하여 ‘유일성’, ‘친숙성’, ‘포괄성’ ‘확인가능성’ 등 이론이 제기된 바 있는데 이 논문에서는 ‘확인가능성’ 이론을 수용하였다. 다양한 용례를 분석한 결과에 따르면 한정성 실현에 있어서 담화 맥락이 결정적인 역할을 하지만 의미적, 형태적, 통사적 등 여러 요인들도 함께 작동하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 아울러 각 요인들은 한정성 실현에 미치는 영향에 따라 일정한 '우선순위'가 형성한다는 점을 시사하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the method of expression of the Korean definiteness category systematically. Theories of ‘uniqueness’, ‘familiarity’, ‘inclusiveness’, and ‘identifiability’ have been proposed for the semantic nature of definiteness. In this paper, the ‘identifiability’ theory is accepted. As a semantic/pragmatic concept, how definiteness appears in Korean is examined in terms of lexical, morphological, syntactic, and phonological aspects. Analysis of various use cases shows that although the discourse context plays a decisive role in the expression of definiteness, several factors such as semantic, morphological, syntactic and phonological work also together. In addition, it is suggested that these factors form a certain 'priority' according to their respective influences on the realization of definiteness.
