Abstract
This paper aims to demonstrate the continuity of Kim Nam-Chun's literature before and after the liberation period. Kim proposed a creative methodology and the theory of observational literature, reflecting on realistic writing. He continued to practice this approach in both his critiques and works. Dongmaek, comprising the second part of Daeha was released in 1946–47. Considering the narrative flow, the play “Samil Undong”, published in 1947, can be seen as a continuation of Daeha-Dongmaek. While Daeha depicts the modernization transition period centered on Park Seong-gwon, Dongmaek expands the narrative to the new generation represented by the children’s generation. Notably, it emphasizes the vitality of this generation’s young women. This expanded generation becomes the main force behind the March First Movement of 1919, as noted in “Samil Undong”. In the post-liberation transitional period, solidarity for the nation was more important than ideology. Essentially, the future reached by Hyung-geol’s generation was brought to life during the liberation period through the March First Movement. It is for this reason that the generation’s youth are emphasized. The process of generational struggle for recognition, and the realistic writing that observes and records the youth who led the March First Movement is the creative reflection of Kim’s “new creative method.” This would be Kim’s “progressive realism” inspired by his concept of “revolutionary romanticism.”
