초록
This is a comparative study between 『Kalīlah wa Dimnah』and the fable poems of A ḥmad Shawqī.『Kalīlah wa Dimnah』is the Arabic animal fable which has appeared in the 750's by Ibn al-Muqaffa‘ and Aḥmad Shawqī has composed the fable poems in the beginning of the 20th century being influenced by 『Kalīlah wa Dimnah』and the French animal fable of La Fontaine that was composed being deeply influenced by 『Kalīlah wa Dimnah』. This study compares the subjects and the roles of animal characters and their symbolic meanings between the two works especially concentrating on Aḥmad Shawqī's 12 poems which are influenced directly by 『Kalīlah wa Dimnah』. In the aspect of subjects, the two works are common to harmonize the moral teachings in the surface level and the political satire in the deep level. And in the aspect of roles of animal characters and their symbolic meanings,『Kalīlah wa Dimnah』shows the divers symbolic meanings of animals without relation to their natural characters except lions, wolves, donkeys. On the hand the fable poems of Aḥmad Shawqī show the unchangeable and constant symbolic meaning of the animal with relation to their natural characters except the cocks. This is due to the influence of the French animal fable of La Fontaine. The common peculiarity between the two works which have time difference of 1200 years in the aspect of the subjects proves the perpetual tradition of Arabic animal fable as a satire literature.
