Abstract

The research has a intend to analyze two pieces of novel, The personified biography of a cat and The personified biography of a peony written by Donggye Jo, Gu-myeong and find their significance. These two novels have a form called Gajeon, a kind of biography, that means a writer explains the impersonated animal's whole life in the novel by using personification. The personified biography of a cat, whose main character is a impersonated cat, depicts the fact that everybody can desire appropriate valuation of oneself and seek true friend by twisting form deliberately. Donggye tries such like this eagerly and continually in other novels. In the other piece, The personified biography of a peony, he expresses an Iris which stands for Taoism, Mandala, stands for Buddhism, harmony stands for Yang Muk's thought, a peony and a lotus flower stands for the righteousness so as to demonstrates heresy theory. He also suggests that Taoism and Buddhism should be accepted with subjectivity and dares to defy contemporary intellectual's trend. Donggye's personified biography embody a different feature compared with previous novels which underscore the only pleasure of expression. That's why his novels reveal implicitly his life and speculation.
