텍스트인 「유장옥전」은 현재 成均館大學校 尊經閣에 소장되어 있으며, 國文 筆寫本이다. 1권은 유현숙과 조공필의 대립 갈등으로 인한 주인공 家族의 解體와 受難의 過程을 주요 내용으로 하고 있고, 2권은 유장옥이 위기에 처한 天子를 구함으로써 이산한 가족이 再會하고 중원을 침범한 南蠻을 물리쳐 공을 세운 후에 富貴榮華를 누린다는 내용을 담고 있다. 이 소설의 構成的 特性으로 주인공의 誕生譚이 생략되어 있다는 점을 들 수 있다. 女性人物의 受難이 강조되어 있는 것과 大夫人에 의한 敎化 장면도 특징적인 구성법이다. 勒婚과 妻妻 葛藤 화소도 활용하고 있는 바 이는 長篇家門小說에서 활용되는 화소이다. 軍談 가운데 여성영웅의 활약상이 제시된다. 유장옥의 유랑과정에서 보여준 路程記는 판소리의 흥미요소를 활용한 것이다. 따라서 유장옥전은 이전 시기 또는 당대의 독자들에게 흥미를 끌던 화소를 적절히 활용함으로써 通俗的 興味를 추구한 작품이라 하겠다.
Abstract
This paper is study about classical novel Youjangok-jun that introduce newly. This novel copied by Hangul was possessed in present Jon'gyeong'gak(Library) at Sungkyunkwan University. Hero family's decomposition and process of sufferings by confrontation discord of Youhyeonsuk and Jogongpil are main contents in the first half of a novel. Process that hero Youjangok becomes hero of second half of novel is main contents. Youjangok rescues Emperor who fall at crisis. As a result, Youjangok meets again with family. And Youjangok is to defeat barbarian which invade capital and Youjangok becomes hero. Compo- sition characteristic that this novel has is that include the hero's birth abbreviation story, the woman sufferings story, the forced marriage story, the wive's confliction story, the itinerary's insertion story. These are story used mainly in one's family novel and pansori novel. These stories are story that attracted interest to readers then at that time. This is result that consider reader's interest. Therefore, this novel is seen with the literary works which happened by a process in pursuit of popular interest.
