Abstract

Narrative of Subjectivity in the Literature of Country Division －Compare and Analyze Male/Female Formation Novel－ Cha, Seong-yeon The process of modern subjectivity described in Korean literature is closely related with war and country division experience. This thesis compares and analyzes male/female formation novel based on assump- tion that a format of coming of age story, one category of the divided country literature, is a product of modern age atmosphere where new subjectivity established. The male formation novel depicts the process of denying a ‘father' and developing himself to be the one creating history, while female formation novel describes female protagonist undergoing modern age sexuality when traditional patriarchy is challenged, establishing herself to have sexual identity and finding self-identity through relationship with a mother. The study on NaMok(Bare Tree) reveals that female formation novel describes the process where heroin gradually has non-self-identical subject by embracing a memory of war experience and heterogeneous emotions, as a mother who can't be denied is a very basis for self-existence. The narrative of female subjectivity, which is away from identification philosophy of modern time, challenges male- centered representation system and shows possibility of change in modern system.
