濯斯 崔炳憲의 ‘萬宗一臠’ 思想과 基督敎 辨證 - 「聖山明鏡」에 나타난 對 儒敎 論爭을 中心으로 -

本 硏究는 韓國 基督敎 最初의 辨證 神學者인 濯斯 崔炳憲의 소설 「聖山明鏡」을 그의 ‘萬宗一臠 思想’과의 連繫性 속에서 考察하였다. 이 소설은 기독교를 중심으로 한국의 傳統 在來 宗敎인 儒敎, 佛敎, 仙敎와의 종교 談論을 討論體 形式을 빌려 전개한 開化期 基督敎 小說의 대표작이다. 그런데 이 소설에서 피력한 기독교의 優位性은 작가의 神學 사상의 核心인 ‘만종일련’과 연관되어 있다는 점에서 연구의 必要性이 提起된다. ‘만종일련’은 文字的 意味로는 한 덩어리의 고기맛을 가지고도 한 솥의 요리맛을 알 수 있다는 뜻으로서, 즉 하나의 斷片으로도 모든 종교를 貫通하는 眞理를 알 수 있다는 의미를 담고 있다. 본고는 「성산명경」의 종교 변증 중에서 유교와의 論爭을 중심으로 논의를 전개했다. 이는 그의 신학 변증이 儒敎的 世界觀과의 對立과 和解, 克復에 더욱 集中되어 있기 때문이다.
Abstract
This study has examined 「Seongsanmyeonggyeong」 written by Byeong- heon Choe, the first apologetic theologian in the history of Christianity in Korea in connection to his ‘Manjongillyeon’ thoughts. This novel is the representative work of Christianity in the Enlightenment period, adopting a form of a debate on religious discourses among Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, Korea’s traditional religions. More detailed analysis is needed in that the superiority of Christianity expressed in the novel was closely related to the core of author’s theological thoughts, ‘Manjongillyeon’. The literal meaning of ‘Manjongillyeon’ is that one bite on the piece of meat could tell you the taste of the entire caldron. That is, it means that with one aspect, the truth encompassing all regions could be found. The fact that the aspect mentioned here, refers to Christianity, warrants no contest. This paper delved into the discussion centered on the disputes with Confucian thoughts in the religious apologetics in 「Seongsanmyeonggyeong」 because his theological apologetics focuses on the conflict and compromise with Confucian world view and overcoming the conflict.
