정현종의 詩와 時論에 나타난 鍊金術的 想像力의 意味

신화와 시적 象徵體系에서 풍부하게 활용된 연금술적 사유의 기본 의미는 대립되는 원리의 결합을 통한 존재의 質的 변이에 있다. 비천한 금속을 금으로 변화시키고자 하는 연금술에서 두 이질적인 것이 結合하고 溶解되는 과정은 ‘죽음’과 ‘再生’을 동시에 내포하며 이것은 ‘황금’으로 상징되는 존재의 완성을 향한 通過祭儀의 과정이다. 정현종의 시적 사유는 ‘薄明의 時空’을 기반으로 하며, 시를 통해 두 이질적인 이미지의 융합을 시도한다. 양가적 이미지의 결합과 용해적 상상력은 分別과 경계의 논리가 지배하는 현실 세계를 넘어 조화로움과 상호공명을 누리고자 하는 정현종의 시적 욕망을 담고 있는 것이다. 그리고 이러한 시적 욕망은 양가적 이미지의 결합뿐만 아니라 ‘사이’의 해체와 황금빛 ‘몸’의 구현, 카이로스의 시간의식 등으로 變奏되어 나타나는데 이러한 양상들은 궁극적으로 존재의 질적 변이를 지향하는 시인의 연금술적 상상력을 드러낸다.
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate what the alchemical imagination found in the poems of Jeong Hyeonjong means. Alchemical imagination is found frequently in myth and poetic symbol. A major point of alchemical thought is a qualitative change of being through a com- bination of opposite things. In alchemy the transformation from poor metal into gold need the process of combination and dissolution. It is a symbol of death and resurrection. At the same time, it symbolize the process toward completion. Poetic thought of Jeong Hyeonjong is based on ‘time and space of dawn’, which is not a day nor night. It is the time a day and night are mixed together and not separated in two. Jeong Hyeonjong uses the images combining two contradictory images. Coexistence of two contra- dictory images creates a new image. Jeong Hyeonjong intends to realize the harmony of the world from this way. It presents the negativity against the real world which is bound and formalized by a logic. The things mixed, melted, and overflowing in his poems break a boundary and hard shape. It represents the desire of the poet who want to enjoy the harmony and mutual resonance beyond boundaries and the logic that govern the real world. In Jeong Hyeonjong’s poetry, ‘golden body’ and ecstasy in ‘vertical time’ represent his alchemical imagination, too. They mean the beautiful and eternal change like the final process of alchemy.
