김정현, 2023, 1930년대 모더니즘 텍스트의 알레고리적 양상 연구(2), 어문연구, 200 : 227~276 본고는 박태원의 「애욕」에 내재된 비서사적 알레고리를 통해 당대에 이상과 박태원(그리고 김기림)이 공유했던 30년대 모더니즘의 작가적 자의식을 검토했다. 30년대 모더니즘의 ‘사소설적 충실성’은 단순한 현실의 반영으로만 해석되기 어려우며, 이는 텍스트‘상’ 인물과 텍스트‘밖’ 작가가 지닌 예술가적 자의식간의 간극을 통해서만 구체적으로 논의될 수 있다. 비합리적으로 보이는 「애욕」의 ‘하웅’은 단순히 작가의 현실을 반영한 인물만이 아닌, 텍스트‘밖’ 예술가적 자의식을 알레고리적으로 매개하고 있다는 점에서 주목되어야 한다. 이 측면에서 「애욕」은 ‘모던걸과의 실패한 연애담’ 이상으로 논의될 필요가 있다. 「애욕」에 제시된 ‘자화상’의 우울과 회의 이면에는 「이상의 비련」에 ‘매서운 매력’으로 제시된 비계산적이고 광기적인 사랑에 대한 추구가 존재한다. 즉 「애욕」의 근본적 목표는 “애욕의 홍염”이자 서사 이면에 숨겨진 예술가적 자의식을 알레고리화하는 것에 있다고 판단된다. 이상 그리고 박태원에게 텍스트 생산의 문제는 속물적 모더니티와 대결하고 그것을 변용하여 새로운 미학적 가치를 창출하려는 예술가적 자의식과 근본적으로 연결되어 있는 것이다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the allegory aspect of Park Tae-won’s love desire ( 애욕 ). The allegorical text of love desire ( 애욕 ) is closely related to the author’s self-consciousness of Korean modernism in the 30s. In this respect, the “prior novel fidelity” (사소설적 충실성) of Korean modernism in the 1930s is not just a reflection of reality; rather, it serves as a lens through which love narrative of Korean modernism in the 1930s can be discussed in detail through the gap between the character of the text and the artist’s self-consciousness outside beyond it. In love desire ( 애욕 ), the narrative of the irrational ‘Ha-woong’ (하웅) does not simply reflect the above Lee Sang’s real life. Considering the artist’s self-consciousness, love desire ( 애욕 ) should be understood as more than “a failed love story with a modern girl.”The depression and skepticism of the “self-portrait” in love desire ( 애욕 ) can be seen as the same concept as the “harsh charm” (매서운 매력) mentioned in the tragedy of Lee-rang ( 이상의 비련 ). The Self-portrait’s “depression” and “hard charm” equally refer to the non-calculating and crazy love the artist pursues. The fundamental goal of love desire ( 애욕 ) is to allegorize the artist’s self-consciousness hidden behind the narrative. The “Red Flame of Love” (애욕의 홍염) presented at the end of the novel is an important image of artist self-consciousness. For Lee Sang and Park Tae-won, the literary text is an artist’s self-consciousness to create a new aesthetic by fighting snobbery modernity.
