Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of self-management strategies using tablet PC on independent performance of routine activities and class preparation behaviors with elementary students with intellectual disabilities. The participants of this study were 3 students with intellectual disabilities who belonged to the special education classroom in a public elementary school. The settings of this study were general education classrooms and special education classroom of the school. For this study, multiple probe design across participants was employed including baseline, intervention, maintenance, and generalization period for 3 participants. Effects of generalization were examined at home of the participants. The results of this study were as follows: First, the percentages of independent performance of routine activities of all participants were improved after the intervention. Second, the percentages of class preparation behaviors of all participants were improved after the intervention. Third, the increased performance of routine activities and class preparation behaviors of the participants were maintained after the intervention was terminated. Fourth, the increased performance of routine activities and class preparation behaviors of the participants were generalized at home as a different setting. These results showed that self-management strategies using tablet PC had positive effects on the independent performance of routine activities and class preparation behaviors for the students with intellectual disabilities in the elementary school. Also, this study provided several ways to promote independence of students with disabilities in school along with future research and implications that were related to various self-management strategies using tablet PC for people with disabilities.
