Abstract

Previous studies have established significant negative bidirectional relationships between depression and sleep duration and between aggression and sleep duration among adolescents, respectively. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the bidirectional relationships between the aforementioned variables. The present study analyzed the 2nd, 3rd , 4th, 6th and 7th data from the Korea Children and Youth Panel Study. The research models were tested using autoregressive cross-lagged path analysis. The major results were as follows. First, adolescents’ depression and aggression had a positive autoregressive effect, respectively. Second, adolescents’ depression was a causal predictor of aggression, and vice versa. Third, adolescents’ depression and aggression did not influence their sleep duration. Fourth, adolescents’ sleep duration on school nights was a causal predictor of aggression. In conclusion, theoretical and practical implications in terms of enhancing adolescents’ sleep health were discussed.
