빈곤가정 아동의 관점에서 탐색한 “우리 동네” 연구: 아동은 어떤 동네에서 살기를 꿈꾸는가?

초록

본 연구는 빈곤가정 아동의 관점에서 지역사회 거주환경을 탐색하여 아동들이 원하는 지역사회 환경과 관련된 실천적 함의를 도출하기 위한 연구 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 전국에 소재한 11개의 복지관을 이용하고 있는 빈곤가정 아동 중 초등학교 5학년에서 중학교 2학년까지의 아동을 참여자로 하여 포토보이스를 결합한 초점집단인터뷰를 수행하였다. 수집된 자료는 주제분석방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 아동이 살고 싶은 동네에 대해 4개의 주제와 12개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 도출된 4개의 주제를 살펴보면, 첫 번째는 ‘놀이터 같은 동네’로서 아동을 위한 다양한 기반이 갖추어진 물리적 공간, 자유로움과 접근성이 뒷받침된 공간을 의미한다. 두 번째는 ‘쾌적한 동네’로서 깨끗하고 조용하며 자연으로 마음이 정화되는 곳이며, 세 번째는 ‘안전한 동네’로서 일상의 위험으로부터 자신이 보호받을 수 있는 공간을 의미한다. 마지막은 ‘더불어 살아가는 동네’로 따뜻한 이웃과 소통하고 서로 도우며 사는 공간을 의미한다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 아동들이 원하는 지역사회 환경 조성을 위한 실천적 제언을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the living environment of the community from the perspective of children in poverty, and to provide practical implications in relation to the children’s desired community environment. For this purpose, focus group interview with photovoice method has been conducted with children in poverty and in ages between 5th grade of elementary school and 2nd grade of middle school, who were using 11 Welfare Centers nationwide. The collected data were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. As a result, four topics and 12 sub-topics were derived from the analysis as the neighborhood in which children wish to live. First topic is the “playground-like neighborhood”, which refers to a physical space with a variety of infrastructures for children, and a space allowing freedom and accessibility. Secondly, there is “comfortable neighborhood”, which is clean and quiet, with nature that could cleanse the mind. Third topic is the “safe neighborhood” where one could be protected from the dangers of everyday life. Lastly, there is the “neighborhood living together”, where neighbors warmly communicate with and help each other. Based on these results, some practical suggestions are provided for creating a community environment that children dream of living.
