Abstract
In 2021, there were 6,321 sex crimes in Korea with a crime rate of 13.5%. Correctional facilities are operating various programs to prevent sex crimes, but the recidivism rate of sex crimes is still increasing. Therefore, this study aims to develop a recidivism prevention program for sex offenders based on the dialectical behavioral therapy theory. The development of the program was based on prior research and demand surveys. The program focuses on the four core skills of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): mindfulness. It consisted of emotional regulation training, pain tolerance, and interpersonal relationship enhancement skills. As for the study design, the effect of the program was verified by a mixed study method with a non-equivalent control group pre-post design. A total of 28 male sex offenders imprisoned in a correctional facility in G city were selected as subjects for the study, and the sample was divided into 14 experimental groups and 14 control groups by random allocation sampling. did For quantitative analysis, homogeneity was confirmed by SPSS 27.0 program independent sample verification, and the effect between groups was examined by two-way mixed design repeated measures variance analysis. First, the experimental group participating in the dialectical behavioral therapy program showed a statistically significant difference in interpersonal empathy and adult attachment compared to the control group, and the effect of change remained statistically significant in the follow-up examination. Second, as a result of analyzing the experience of participating in the program by subject analysis method, 36 sub-topics and 10 top-level themes appeared. This was rearranged into the analysis domains of impulsiv ity, aggression, and self-control. In impulsiveness, the themes of voluntary control of will-violent behavior by reason, reinforcement of predictive ability, and search for the cause of anger emerged. In aggression, the themes of converting destructive instincts into healthy energy, getting rid of hostile feelings toward others, and standing in a low position appeared. In self-control, the cultivation of the power to overcome temptation, future success rather than present satisfaction, and normativ e behav ioral goal setting appeared. The researchers discussed based on the research results and tried to prevent recidivism by proposing a practical approach that could support sex offenders’ social readjustment in correctional institutions.
