Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine spatial composition ofpublic office buildings, users’ awareness, preference, satisfaction,and willingness to use regarding the cultural space-establishedpublic office buildings. Findings of this study can define theproblem and limitation of public office building’s cultural spaces,and then present suggestions for the planning of appropriatecultural spaces for public office buildings. Study findings are asfollows: First, it is necessary to place cultural spaces in a lowerfloor and minimize the distance between cultural spaces and mainentrance and circulation area. Second, when providing culturalspace, it should not surpass the office function of the publicoffice building and should be as much as needed. Third, it isnecessary for the planning of cultural spaces in the future to takewomen into account. Fourth, this study suggested that culturalspaces of public office buildings need to represent local identityusing symbolism which differentiates from cultural facilities ofother region. If a cultural space is planned focusing on localresident’s standpoints and needs, based on or referring to thisstudy findings, it will be possible to establish a unique culturalspace of a public office building that is discriminated from otherfacilities.
