본 논문은 세 자리 산업별 자료를 토대로 한국의 대중국 수출을 자본재와 중간재 수출로 구분하여 대중국 수출이 한국 제조업 성장에 대한 미친 영향의 구체적 경로를 분석한다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째 대중국 수출은 중간재 수출이라는 경로보다는 주로 중국의 투자수요와 연관된 자본재 수출이라는 경로를 통해서 한국 제조업의 성장에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 이러한 현상은 경제위기 이후에 상대적으로 보다 뚜렷하게 나타난다. 특히 이러한 긍정적인 영향은 한국 제조업의 고용측면에서보다는 생산측면에서 보다 견고하게 나타난다. 둘째, 대중국 교역관계에서 중국과의 경쟁 특히 국내에서의 중국과의 경쟁경로는 한국 제조업의 생산 및 고용측면에서 모두 부정적인 영향을 미쳤으나, 경제위기 이후 그 부정적 영향은 상당히 완화된 것으로 나타난다. 다만, 제조업 고용에 미치는 부정적인 영향은 경제위기 이후에도 여전히 존재하는 것으로 분석된다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the roles of capital goods and intermediate goods exports from Korea to China on growth of the Korean manufacturing industries. Main results are as follows. First, it is exports of capital goods to China, rather than exports of intermediate goods, that had a positive effect on the growth of manufacturing industries. This effect is stronger in post-crisis period and more visible in production growth than in employment growth. Second, although the import competition in Korea's domestic market had a negative effect on both production and employment growth, its magnitude has been mitigated after the crisis.
