Abstract
In this study, I analyze multi-volatility flocking phenomenon from a volatility network. Referring to Cucker and Smale (2007)’s flocking mechanism, I generate the Volatility Flocking Index (VFI) with volatilities of 30 companies that are listed on KOSPI. I examine the impulse response function from the results of vector autoregression model with the VFI, the average return of KOSPI, and the implied volatility index (VKOSPI). The results show that the VFI helps measuring risks and predicting changes in the KOSPI and VKOSPI. In the sector analysis, stocks in materials, consumer staples and financials play significant roles in changing the VFI.
