한국의 지역 간 삶의 질(Quality of Life; QOL) 차이는 어느 정도인가? 본 연구는 Jones and Klenow (2016)의 방법론을 한국의 개인 및 가구 수준의 미시 자료에 적용하여 지역 별 대등소비 후생(Consumption-equivalent welfare)을 측정함으로써 소득 단순 비교를 넘어서 위 질문에 대한 답을 하였다. 분석 결과, 후생에 모든 지역에 전반적으로 크게 영향을 주는 요소는 기대수명으로 분석되었으며 지역 간 삶의 질 이질성에 영향을 주는 주요 요소는 1인당 지역 내 총생산 대비 소비 비중으로 분석되었다. 특히 기존 연구와 달리 대등소비 후생과 1인당 지역 내 실질총생산간의 상관관계가 전국적으로 음(-)의 관계를 나타나 우리나라의 경우 1인당 지역 내 실질총생산이 소비자들의 삶의 질을 잘 대변하지 못할 수 있음을 보여준다.
Abstract
This study analyzes which region in South Korea has the highest Quality of Life. In doing so, we follow Jones and Klenow (2016) by measuring consumption-equivalent welfare across regions, to micro and macro data of South Korea. We find that (1) life expectancy is the most important factor in determining consumption-equivalent welfare and (2) the ratio between consumption per capita and income per capita is the most important factor in explaining heterogeneity in the welfare across regions in Korea. We further show that gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita and the consumption-equivalent welfare are negatively related.
