Abstract
Focusing on the recent technological advances in the manufacturing sectors of the East Asian economies, this study estimates of contribution of domestic and foreign R&D capital stocks in the growth of manufacturing sectors of Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and the G-7 based on the meta-production function approach. The results show that the domestic R&D and foreign R&D spillovers across countries on economic growth provide potential explanations for the productivity gain in the recent years. Surprisingly, contrary to the previous findings that there exist a significant benefit arising from the inovative efforts of the developed economies, the evidence indicates that domestic innovative effort was the main factor in achieving productivity gain rather than the international R&D spillover effect.JEL : D24, O33, F10
