Abstract
Despite the lenient bankruptcy law in U.S. and the rapid expansion of consumer credit, U.S. banks could manage the loss from credit card delinquency by the good credit scoring system. On the other hand, the Korean credit card companies issued credit cards unscrupulously, soon producing many credit defaulters. This paper proposes to enact the U.S. style, lenient bankruptcy law for the stabilization of credit card market and for freeing the credit defaulters from excessive burden of debt. Although the lenient bankruptcy law may temporarily disturb the credit card market, it will enhance economic welfare in the long run.
