여성의 이주, 다층적 스케일의 장소 열기 그리고 정체성 저글링

이주여성에 대한 국내의 논의들은 이주여성을 단순히 체제나 구조의 희생 물로 볼 것이 아니라 주어진 정체성을 변형시키고 교섭시키는 행위자성을 발 휘하는 존재로 볼 것을 제안하기 시작했다. 그러나 필자는 이 논의들이 다음 과 같은 개념적 문제 자체를 다루지는 않고 있다고 본다. 우선 그들은 여성의 이주와 함께 만들어진 혼종적 공간을 언급하지만 그 공간의 다양한 켜들을 드러내 줄 수 있는 개념을 도입하고 있지 않다. 둘째로 그러한 논의들은 이주 여성들의 행위자성이 이주와 함께 생성된 새로운 장소성의 문제와 어떤 관련 을 맺고 있는지를 개념적으로 설명하지 않고 있다. 따라서 필자는 본 논문에서 린다 멕다웰이 발전시키고 있는 “장소” 및 장 소의 “다층적 스케일” 개념을 도입함으로써 여성의 이주와 함께 형성된 삶의 공간을 파악하고, 이 장소 속에 어떠한 다양한 스케일들이 교차하고 있는지를 살펴볼 것이다. 나아가 필자는 이주여성의 행위자성이 다층적 스케일의 장소 를 열어가고 그 안에서 자신의 정체성들을 “저글링”하는 과정에서 실현되고 있음을 보여줄 것이다.
Abstract
The Korean discussion on feminization of migration has began to suggest, that migrant women are not only as victims of structure, but also as agencies who translate or negotiate their established structure and identities. But in this paper, I'd like to say, that their suggestions overlook the conceptual analysis of agency or space in itself. Most of all, their concept of negotiation can't show the relation between their agency, immigrant and identities sufficiently. Even though they use the concept “hybrid”, “deterritorialisation” or “in-between”, in order to express the space of immigrant women, they can't explain the concrete differences of the space, nor distinguish between its multiple layers. So, according to Linda McDowell, I will introduce the concepts of “place” and “scale”, and explain that immigrant women negotiate their identities in the multiple place that is made through their new socio-spatial practices and these practices result in overlapping and intersecting places with multiple and changing boundaries. On the basis of these concepts. I will show that the agency of immigrant women can be realized in process of inauguration of multiple scaled places and juggling their identities in the multiple scaled places.
