Abstract

This study analyzes the problem of “imagined alterity” that emerged during the expansion of poetics in the Miraepa discourse of the mid- to late-2000s, which was grounded in relational ontology. While Miraepa criticism proposed a subject formed through the mediation of the Other and sought new political possibilities, discussions on the political potential of Miraepa poetry were eventually absorbed into the aesthetic framework of “political aesthetics” within the neo-conservative literary climate of the time. As a result, alterity tended to be reified as an aesthetic object. Miraepa discourse attempted a form of “poetic postmodernity” by extending re- flection on alterity through critiques of lyricism, the reconstruction of subjectivity, and changes in modes of representation. However, these efforts revealed limitations within the inner-oriented structure of the 2000s literary field, which constrained the attempt to move beyond the modern first-person self. In this process, the alterity of women was relatively marginalized, as Miraepa criticism often read feminist literature through the lens of aesthetic stagnation. This suggests the need to approach alterity from more multifaceted and inclusive perspectives.
