호메로스의 『오뒤세이아』에 나타난 오뒤세우스는 10년간에 걸쳐 진행된 트로이 전쟁의 영웅이다. 10년간의 바다에서의 방랑을 끝내고 조묵으로 무사히 돌아간 유일한 생존자다. 나아가 108명의 구혼자들 중, 음유시인 페미오스와 전령 메돈만을 살려 둔 채, 나머지 모두를 죽이고 왕권을 되찾았던 아티카의 왕이다. 본 논문은 오뒤세우스의 생존 리더십을 호메로스의 『일리아스』와 『오뒤세이아』 그리고 소포클레스의 『아이아스』 등을 통해 분석한 글이다. 오뒤세우스의 생존 리더십은 다음 세 가지 측면, 즉 ‘위기극복 리더십’, ‘설득 리더십’ 그리고 ‘실천 리더십’의 관점에서 조명될 수 있다. (1) 위기극복 리더십: 오뒤세우스는 제반 위기 상황에서 오뒤세우스가 사용했던 다양한 지적 능력과 윤리적 태도 등이 분석되었다. 그리하여 생존 리더십에서 가장 중요한 요소가 로고스와 절제임이 언급되었다. (2) 설득 리더십에서는 공동체의 갈등과 분열을 중재하고 화합시킬 수 있는 오뒤세우스의 능력이 분석되었다. (3) 실천 리더십에서는 귀향 후 오뒤세우스가 왕으로서의 자기정체성을 어떻게 회복하는가가 분석되었다. 이러한 분석을 통해, 필자는 오뒤세우스의 생존 리더십이 현대 서바이벌 리더십의 원형임을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Odysseus is the hero of the Trojan War, which lasted 10 years. He is the only survivor who returned safely to motherland after 10 years of wandering at sea. Furthermore, he is the king of Attica who eliminated all 106 suitors and regained his throne. This paper analyzes Odysseus's survival leadership through Homer's Iliad and Odyssey and Sophocles' Aias. Odysseus’s survival leadership can be illuminated from the following three aspects: ‘crisis-overcoming leadership’, ‘persuasive leadership’, and ‘practical leadership’. (1) Crisis-overcoming leadership: The various intellectual abilities and ethical attitudes that Odysseus used in various crisis situations were analyzed. Thus, it was mentioned that the most important elements in survival leadership are logos and moderation. (2) In persuasive leadership, Odysseus's ability to mediate and reconcile conflict and division in the community was analyzed. (3) In practical leadership, how Odysseus recovers his identity as a king after returning home was analyzed. Through this analysis, the author suggested that Odysseus' survival leadership is the prototype of modern survival leadership.
