20세기초 극장 무대 공연 잡가(雜歌) 고찰

, Choong-kwon(Institute of Korean Studies)The present study examined the general characteristics of Jap-ga performed at theaters in Seoul in the early 20th century. According to the results, as it secured new space for performance, Jap-ga in those days occupied a solid position as a genre of popular songs, mainly led by a number of songs popular among audience. Remarkable points were that Jap-ga from Gyeonggi-do, from Seo-do and from Nam-do was sung together at the same place and that Gisaengs were actively pulled into the performance to raise audience value. However, the frequency of performance seems to have decreased in the 1910s. And people preferred songs with many ornaments and songs that singers sang standing. A possible reason for the publication of a large number of Jap-ga collections in 1910s is that publishing companies persuaded Jap-ga singers who had fewer opportunities for performance.
