초록
The craft of Batik dyeing of the Miao people in Guizhou Province is used for ornamenting articles of everyday use such as bedsheets and cloth-wrappers as well as garments. Almost all the Batik articles have plain white patterns on blue grounds except for Anshun. Anshun, aside from blue colour, they also use red, green and yellow. Thanks to the dexterous and superb craftsmanship of the Maio women in artistic creation, the batik patterns are endowed with a lively and simple style. These patterns may be roughly devided into two types. One type consists of geometrical figures made up spiral and swastika designs, dots and lines. The other type includes patterns modelled on natural objects. Although there are only two colours, blue and white, the batik patterns are free of the monotony of plain dyeing and show multiple shades of colour. This is achieved by artistically spacing and arranging the dots and lines and striving to have a rational layout and a compact structure in the combination of the dynamic and the static.
