시설퇴소 청년의 인간관계에 관한 질적 연구

초록

본 연구는 시설퇴소 청년의 인간관계(원가족관계 제외)가 어떠한 양상으로 이루어지는지 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 심층면접을 활용한 질적 연구방법을 사용하였다. 연구참여자는 아동양육시설 퇴소자 총 25명이었다. 자료 분석 결과, 연구참여자에 따라 시설에서 만난 어른들에 대해‘퇴소해서도 정서적 지지가 되는 상담자 VS 퇴소해서 계속 의지하기에 미안한 마음이 드는 사람’,‘퇴소해서도 도구적 지지를 주는 해결자 VS 퇴소 후에는 받을 수 있는 지원에 대한 안내자일 뿐’으로 인식하고 있었다. 시설에서 만난 친구, 선·후배들에 대해서는 참여자에 따라 ‘원에서 때리고 맞던 사이로 퇴소 후에는 피하는 사람’,‘퇴소해서는 경제적·정보적으로 의지하는 사람’,‘어려우면 도미노처럼 함께 무너지는 사람’, ‘퇴소해서도 정서적으로 의지되는 사람’으로 여기고 있었다. 사회에서 만난 이들에 대해서는 참여자에 따라 ‘나를 있는 그대로 보여줄 수 없는 사람’으로 인식하거나 ‘있는 그대로 보여줄 수 있는 사람’으로 대하고 있었다. ‘나를 있는 그대로 보여줄 수 없는 사람’의 구체적인 표상으로는 ‘나를 편견을 가지고 대하는 사람’,‘원치 않는 동정심을 표하는 사람’, 위축감이 들게 하는 사람’이 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 퇴소청년들의 바람직한 인간관계를 위한 정책적·실천적·상담적 시사점을 제시하였다.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the interpersonal relationships (excluding relationships with immediate family members) of the youth who aged out of institutional care. In-depth interviews were conducted as a qualitative research method. Participants were 25 youth discharged from the children care institutions. The data analysis revealed that the participants categorized the adults they had met in the institutions as ‘counselors I can emotionally rely on after being released from the institutions vs. people I feel sorry for relying on after being released from the institutions,’ or ‘people who provide instrumental support after being released from the institutions vs. people who only provide guidance on the support I can receive after being released from the institutions.’ The participants also considered friends they had met in the institutions as ‘people I want to avoid after being released from the institutions because they used to quarrel with them in the institutions,’ ‘people I rely on for reasons regarding finances and information,’ ‘people who struggle with me when in trouble due to the domino effect,’ and ‘people I can emotionally rely on after being released from the institutions.’ The participants considered those whom they meet in the society as ‘people to whom I cannot show the real me’ or ‘people to whom I can show the real me.’ The participants added that ‘people to whom I cannot show the real me’ include ‘people who treat me with prejudice,’ ‘people who express unwanted sympathy,’ and ‘people who give me withering looks.’ Based on the results of this study, implications on policy, practice, and counseling regarding interpersonal relationships of the youth who aged out of institutional care were proposed.
