새터민 청소년의 남한사회 적응과정 연구 : 무기력에서 희망으로의 거듭남

본 연구의 목적은 새터민 청소년들이 남한사회에 적응해 가는 과정을 긍정적으로 고찰하여 이들의 삶을 지원할 방안을 찾는 것이다. 본 연구의 대상은 새터민 청소년 4명 이었으며, 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 질적연구방법 중 하나인 근거이론으로 접근하였다. 연구 참여자들과의 심층면담을 통해 얻은 원자료에 대해 개방코딩 한 결과 총 98개의 개념과 40개의 하위범주, 15개의 범주가 도출되었다. 이를 요약해보면, 중심현상을 일으킨 인과적 조건은 ‘비자발적 탈북결정’, ‘힘들었던 탈북과정’이며, 참여자들의 경험에 대한 중심현상은 ‘스트레스받음’으로 나타났다. 이에 영향을 미친 맥락적 조건은 ‘탈북경험에 시달림’, ‘괴롭힘’으로 나타났으며, 작용/상호작용 전략을 촉진시키거나 억제하는 중재적 조건은 ‘긍정적 자극제로서 과거경험’, ‘새터민을 위한 제도적 장치’, ‘남한생활에 대한 기대, ‘남한 친구들의 도움’, ‘새로운 가정의 형성’으로 나타났다. 중심현상에 대한 작용/상호작용 전략은 ‘상황에 맞서기’, ‘자신돌아보기’, ‘혼자서 삭이기’, ‘친구 사귀기’로 나타났으며, 결과는 ‘남한생활에 대한 적응’으로 나타났다. 다음으로 새터민 청소년들이 남한사회에 적응하는 과정은 ‘무기력단계’, ‘의지단계’, ‘실행단계’, ‘적응단계’의 4단계로 분석되었으며, 선택코딩에서 핵심범주는 ‘스트레스 극복하고 적응하기’로 나타났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to consider positively adaptation process of the South Korean society by adolescents from North Korea and to seek solutions to support their lives. In order to achieve the goals of the study, this research bases on grounded theory in qualitative studies and four adolescents who defected from North Korea were recruited. By doing an in-depth analysis with participants, total of 98 concepts with 40 sub-categories and 15 upper-categories were classified for the study. These categories in turn were classified as 1. cause and effect condition(decision of involuntary escape from North Korea, tough process of escaping from North Korea), 2. main phenomenon(to get stressed), 3. contextual condition(suffering from experience of escaping from North Korea, harassing), 4. mediating condition(past experiences as positive stimulant, institutional devices for North Korean defector, expectations of South Korea life, support of South Korea friends, formation of new home), 5. action/interaction strategy(facing the difficulties boldly, reflection of oneself, internalizing the anger, making friends) and result(adjustment to South Korea life). The process of adaptation for the school had the following steps: ‘helplessness', ‘willingness’, ‘practice’, ‘adjustment’. Main theme was ‘to overcome their stress and adaptation’.
