Numeral Quantifiers in Small Clauses

Abstract

This paper studies various distributions of numeral quantifiers in Korean focusing on the NQ that follows a DP with an overt Case. After examining previous analyses of floating quantifiers, this paper discusses properties unique to Korean numeral quantifiers. Based on these properties, it is proposed that NQs appear in the predicate position of an adjunct small clause whose subject is PRO. It implies that the modification relation between floating NQ and its modified DP is indirect in that it is a combination of the control relation between the DP and PRO and the predication relation between the PRO and its NQ predicate. The striking similarity between the interpretation of PRO and that of an overt anaphor in Korean is also discussed. (Sejong University)
