Abstract
Yang, Jeong-Seok. 2004. A Description of Argument Linking in Korean: Based on Conceptual Semantics. Korean Journal of Linguistics, 29-3, 329-357. Locomotion verbs and manner-of-motion verbs should be distinguished in Korean, since the postpositions '-ey' and '-lo' have independent syntactic and semantic behaviors in the environment of the verb constructions with relation to aspectuality. The two classes of the verbs interact with three kinds of adjuncts, direction 'NP-lo', path 'NP-lo', and path 'NP-lul', which can be captured only by adjunct correspondence rule(or construction rule) format. Particularly I show that the 'NP-lul' form path adjunct(formerly considered 'object', due to its so-called objective case marker '-lul') is best described by the adjunct correspondence rule in Jackendoff(1990)'s framework, and compare it with other linking theoretic approaches, focusing on the directionality of measuring-out.
