Abstract

This paper deals with the lexical, constructional, semantic and pragmatic aspects on the Caused Motion Construction. At first, the semantic constraints on the Caused Motion Construction are discussed in detail as its characteristics. Then Goldberg(1995)`s Constructional Grammar approach is discussed and some problems are pointed out: the redundancy, the argument roles, lexical selection and vague syntactic analysis. In this paper the lexical approach is adopted instead of the construction based approach. It is also argued that there are two kinds of different syntactic analysis: Control Caused Motion Construction and Exceptional Case Marking Caused Motion Construction. And then semantic interpretation is postulated in the interface between syntax and semantics. This lexical and interpretation approach can solve Goldberg`s redundancy and other problems. It also has some advantages not only to distinguish the lexical, syntactic and semantic aspects but also to deal with other pragmatic aspects of Caused Motion Construction.
