몽유가사의 ‘꿈’ 모티프 변주 양상과 <길몽가>의 의미

본 논문은 몽유가사의 양식적 특징을 밝히기 위해 몽유가사의 가장 핵심적 모티프인 ‘꿈’을 주목하고, 꿈의 변주 양상을 통해 몽유가사의 전반적인 존재양상을 고찰하였다. 또한 이러한 전반적인 조망을 토대로, 몽유가사의 양식적 특징을 충실히 구현한 <길몽가>의 특징과 의미를 밝혔다. 몽유가사는 ‘현실-입몽-몽중-각몽-현실’의 구조를 지닌 일련의 작품으로 주로 18세기 이후부터 1900년대에 이르기까지 향유된 가사를 말한다. 이들은 특히 ‘꿈’의 변주 양상을 중심으로 향유층의 다양한 지향과 세계관을 드러낸다는 점에서 주목을 요한다. 즉 ‘꿈’을 단순한 시적 소재나 형식으로 사용하는 데에 그치지 않고 현실과 소통하고 조형하는 수단으로 사용했다는 점이 흥미롭다. 이러한 양상을 직접적으로 보여주는 작품 중의 하나가 바로 <길몽가>이다. <길몽가>는 작가가 밝혀진 향촌 양반 사대부의 가사작품으로서 몽유와 전언이라는 이중 구조를 통해 자기이해와 타인으로부터의 인정을 추구하였다. 그리고 유학자로서의 도통론에 근거하여 자신의 정체성을 ‘꿈’을 통해 확인하고 그 존재감을 천명함으로써 꿈을 유가적 삶을 실천적으로 조형하는 수단으로 사용하고 있다. 이와 같이 본고는 몽유가사의 전체적 조망 아래 개별 작품론을 연계하여 설명함으로써 개별 작품의 보편성과 특이성을 설명해 내는 성과를 얻었다. 한편 <길몽가>의 특징을 몽유가사의 꿈 모티프 변주라는 일정한 기준을 통해 살핌으로써 그동안 밝히지 못했던 <길몽가>의 새로운 의미를 해석하였다. 이로써 본고는 가사에서 꿈 모티프의 활용 양상과 문학적 기능을 밝히고, 사대부가사에서의 꿈 차용의 의미와 세계관적 배경 및 지향을 개별작품을 통해 파악하는 등의 성과를 내었다.
Abstract
This paper examined the overall existence aspect of Mongyu-Gasa and disclosed the features and meanings of <Gilmongga>. Mongyu-Gasa is a series of works having structure of 'reality-entering dream-during dream-awaking from dream-reality', and was mostly written from the time after 18th century to 1900's. These works attract special attention in that they indicate various goals and world views of the class enjoying their lives centering around 'Dream'. The work that directly shows such an aspect is the very <Gilmongga>. <Gilmongga> is Gasa work of Yangban, a high official, whose author was disclosed, and pursued for self-understanding and recognition from others through dual structure named sommambulance(dream) and message (conveyance). In addition, on the basis of Dotongron (means to take over "Do") as a Confucian scholar, the author confirmed his/her identity through 'Dream' and publicly announced his/her existence sense. Like this, this paper obtained results that explain the universality and peculiarity of an individual work by connecting individual theory of a work under the total prospect of Mongyu-Gasa. Meanwhile, this paper proposed new interpretation of <Gilmongga> by looking into featues of <Gilmongga> through a certain standard named motive variation on dream of Mongyu-Gasa. Accordingly, this paper is significant in that it disclosed utilization aspects and literary functions of dream motive in Gasa, and that revealed the meaning of borrowing dream in the high official Gasa and the global background and intention.
