본 연구는 고등학생의 스마트폰 의존과 또래 괴롭힘 참여자 역할행동 관계에서 사회적 위축과 공격성의 매개효과를 살펴보고 이에 따른 성차를 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국청소년정책연구원에서 제공하는 한국아동청소년패널조사 2018(Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 [KCYPS 2018])의 중 1 코호트 6차 조사 자료를 활용해 고등학교 3학년 총 2,206명을 분석한 결과, 스마트폰 의존은 사회적 위축과 공격성을 순차적으로 매개하여 또래 괴롭힘 역할행동에 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 성별에 따라 이러한 경로의 차이를 분석한 결과, 남녀학생 모두에서 유의미한 매개 경로가 나타났으나, 여학생의 경우 스마트폰 의존이 또래 괴롭힘 참여자 역할행동에 미치는 직접적인 영향은 유의미하지 않았다. 본 연구는 고등학생의 스마트폰 의존도와 관련된 정서적 및 행동적 변인 간의 관계에서 성별에 따른 차별적인 영향력이 나타남을 보여주며, 이는 또래 괴롭힘 참여자 역할행동에 대한 성별 맞춤형 상담 개입의 필요성을 시사하고, 향후 개입 전략 수립을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있음을 보여준다.
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the mediating effects of social withdrawal and aggression in the relationship between smartphone dependency and roles in peer bullying among high school students, while also exploring gender differences in these pathways. For this purpose, data from the 6th wave of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018(KCYPS 2018), conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute, were analyzed. The sample consisted of 2,206 third-year high school students. The results indicated that smartphone dependency influenced engagement in roles in peer bullying through a sequential mediation of social withdrawal and aggression. Furthermore, a multi-group analysis revealed significant mediating paths for both male and female students. However, among female students, the direct effect of smartphone dependency on roles in peer bullying was not statistically significant. These findings suggest that emotional and behavioral variables associated with smartphone dependency may affect bullying-related behaviors differently by gender. This study offers foundational insights for developing gender-sensitive counseling and intervention strategies aimed at addressing peer bullying involvement among high school students.
