Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide a new lesson model for learningEnglish as a foreign language using Cross-Cultural Distance Learning(CCDL) through the interactions between NNS(non-native speakers ofEnglish)–NNS interactions. This research analyse the data from the NUniversity(Korea)- W University(Japan) CCDL Project, which consists ofcomputer-mediated communication(CMC) activities such as chatting, BBS,and video conferencing systems. The data include the student surveythrough questionnaire, and on-line discussion with students. The firstpurpose is to investigate how the students feel about this kind of lessonmodel using CCDL in English language learning so that this researchprove that CCDL is very effective in enhancing EFL learners’ motivation, and making EFL learners learn English in low anxiety, and sharing theculture of different countries. The second one is to prove that EFLlearners who participated in this project are satisfied with NNS-NNSinteractions. The results of this survey show that the students couldincrease motivation of learning English, learn English within low anxiety, and share the cultures of other country. This research model focuses onNNS-NNS interactions between Japanese and Korean, and aims to prove that new lesson model using CCDL through NNS-NNS interactions can bea good lesson model for learning EFL in Asian context.
