구조주의적 주체 인식의 문제 - 서정인의 초기 소설을 대상으로

Abstract

It is the conclusion of this research that the early novels, written by Seo Jung-in, could obtain its certain understanding through the ‘structuralism’. It is not saying that text can be deciphered by the method of structuralism study. In the early novels of Seo Jung-in, it has obvious tendency on cognition which can be called ‘Structuralist’. It would be so if it were limited to the problem of subject. The early novels of him can be categorized by two when seeing from the view point of Cognition of Structuralist Subject. If the tendency which inquires the possibility of escape is one aspect, the other aspect is the remarkable tendency including the negation to free will of the subject and permission of limitation. What does the subject really can do? An inquiry about the way of existence of subject and its possibility is a consistent problem of the writers. Indeed, Seo Jung-in’s novels kept showing its certain responses about those problems. Skepticism and negation of subject’s free will toward the step of expending its extension in variety variations. Suppose that thought of limitation, destiny of pessimism, interest about the area which is out of control from the subject’s consciousness are those steps. Those main characters who embody these realms, however, mostly cannot be the master of their fate. One of the core doctrines of modernity is the notion of subject based on free will. Consequently, it is the logical conclusion that negation of this subject could be lead to the historical denial or political renunciation. The subject cannot be motivated at all once whose free will is denied. If the narrative of deeds by free will should be scanty in a novel, the way out of realm of the novel would be given to staying in constant situation. The characters in Seo Jung-in’s novel lost their will while accepting these limitations of destiny. However, there is a problem at the point where the subject's free will is deleted is the scene where human is erased and dissolved to the nature. A question about awareness of the subject of Seo Jung-in is full of suggestions regarding to discern the way of novels hereafter.
