본 연구는 한국인 화자의 영어 읽기발화 유창성과 전설모음발음 정확성의 상관관계를 밝히고자하는 연구이다. 이를 위해 한국인 성인 남성 16명의 영어 읽기발화에서 발화 속도, 휴지의 개수 및 리듬 지수를 측정하였다. 또한 원어민과의 전설모음 상대적 거리비율 차이를 통해 모음발음 정확성을 판단하였다. 분석 결과 읽기발화 유창성을 나타내는 발화 속도, 휴지, 리듬의 초분절적 자질들은 분절음의 정확성과 상관관계를 보였다. 특히 초분절적 자질 중에서도 발화 속도가 모음발음 정확성에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 드러났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of fluency in read speech on the accuracy of English front vowels by Korean adult speakers. The fluency was analyzed by measuring speech rate, the number of pauses, and rhythm. The accuracy of vowels was analyzed by comparing the relative distance of English front vowels with that of native English speakers’. The results of this study suggest that the fluency in read speech has a positive correlation with the accuracy of English vowels. In particular, speech rate has a significant impact on the accuracy of vowels among suprasegmental features. The results imply that improving the fluency could lead to more accurate pronunciation of English front vowels at least in read speech.
