Abstract

Shin, Jae-hyo is not only a famous writer of Pansori works but also a well-known supporter of Pansori performing art in Korea in 19th century. He supports many performers of Pansori, especially female performers. He writes six kinds of Pansori works. His works are Chunhyangga․Simcheongga․Tobyeolga․Baktaryeong․Jeokbyeokga․Byeongangsoega. These are very importance works of study on Pansori. Particularly, Simcheongga, Baktaryeong and Byeongangsoega are precious materials of study on Korean society as well as Pansori in 19th century. Because these three kinds of works base on common people's lives and customs in Korea, particularly Jeolla province there are not only the source of Pansori but also his hometown. This paper focuses on Korean common people's lives and customs in 19th century through a researching of his three works, Simcheongga, Baktaryeong and Byeongangsoega. His three works show specifically common lives, special customs of four season and some popular performing arts in Korea. Therefore we can exactly understand common people's lives and customs in Korea in 19th century. The conclusion is that Shin, Jae-hyo is a very importance author and supporter in the field of Ponsori's history. His works are not only preciously works of Pansori but also valuable materials of study on Korean culture in 19th century.
