Abstract

Yang Joo Dong is a very well known critic and scholar. But until now, he has been studied as one of the mid position critics through the view of recognition-interest about the Korean modern criticism history, especially in the course of left and right debate on the theme of nationalism or proletarian ideology in the literary critism of late 1920's. So I had a intention in this paper to run after Yang Joo Dong's life-walk in the long term view and to illuminate his critical and poetry works in his twenties and his famous academic works after his thirty years, for example 『Studies on the Korean old poetry』. Through this recognition and re-estimation of his life and works, I could give him a new position as a literary man scholar having achieved a very unique and rich outcome and fruits in the fields of Korean modern criticism and the study of Korean old traditional poetry and the translation work of Western poetry into Korean.
