‘Glocal’ Challenges and the Task of a Future East Asian Comparatist

최근 세계 비교문학계에서 동아시아 연대를 촉구하는 목소리들이 부쩍 높아지고 있다. 유럽연합(EU)의 결성 등 서구사회에 불고 있는 문화적, 정치적 연대에 대응하기 위한 동아시아 국가들의 노력을 반영하는 현상이다. 그러나 실제적으로 동아시아의 비교문학자들은 서로에 대해서 얼마나 많은 것을 알고 있으며, 또 얼마나 많은 것을 “동아시아” 라는 이름으로 공유하고 있을까? 그리고 또 동아시아 비교문학자들은 동아시아 공유문화 형성이라는 목표를 이루기 위해 어떠한 실질적인 노력을 해왔으며 또한 얼마나 준비되어 있을까? 이 논문은 이러한 질문들에 대한 답을 찾아, 동아시아의 문학들이 서로의 고유한 문화적 특질을 잃지 않으면서도 공통의 문화적 유산을 찾아내어 서구문화에 대응하는 문학공동체를 이루어 내기 위해서 선결되어야 할 여러 가지 과제들을 짚어 보는 연구이다. 구체적으로는, 차세대 동아시아 비교문학자들에게 요구되는 세 가지 과제, 즉, 동아시아 학자들에 의한 동아시아 문학사 집필, 동아시아 문학자들 간의 자유로운 학문적 소통을 위한 영어 및 이웃국가 언어의 습득, 전통문학의 전수를 위한 차세대 테크놀로지의 활용 등에 대한 문제들을 논의한다.
