In Korean language education the status of vocabulary education has been changed, such as words or parts of speech to memorize to elements, which are a critical part of communication. Also in Korean language education, vocabulary acts as an important criterion of language abilities. Therefore, we need to make an effort to develop a Korean vocabulary textbook that has a learning method for learning vocabularies and that which covers the structure of a lexicon and the characteristics of Korean vocabulary. This study examined the state and the problems of Korean vocabulary education and its textbooks. Unfortunately, not a lot of Korean vocabulary textbooks for intensive learning of vocabulary have been created and the few that are out there are mostly about idiomatic expressions and do not contain information on word connections. To solve this problem, this study suggested a way to organize a textbook which considers semantic relation, lexical structure, word formation, etc. That is, a textbook that provides a systematic vocabulary learning method through relations between a noun and a verb as well as word formation by semantic field, derivation/ compounding and consonant alternation/ vowel alternation.
