본 연구는 外國人을 위한 韓國語 敎育에서 漢字․漢字語敎育 위한 學習者의 수준별 분류 모형을 제시하고 學習者의 수준에 따른 漢字 敎材의 편성 방향 및 내용을 제시하여 올바른 漢字․漢字語敎育 방안을 모색하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 전 세계 한류의 열풍으로 인해 韓國語의 인기가 날로 높아지고 있고, 韓國을 찾는 外國人 유학생도 급증하고 있다. 반면 현재 우리나라의 文解力과 語彙力 수준은 OECD국가 중에서 하위를 면치 못하고 있는 실정이다. 이에 지금이 國語敎育의 올바른 정립과 韓國語의 세계화를 위한 새로운 정책이 절실히 필요한 때이다. 최근 우리나라의 國語敎育에 대한 문제점을 절감하여 敎育部는 '2015년 문ㆍ이과 통합형 敎育課程'에 漢字敎育 활성화 방안을 포함시켰다. 이는 현재 학생들이 체계적인 漢字敎育이 이루어지지 않아, 의미 소통과 어휘력에 있어서 많은 문제가 있다는 점을 파악하여 2018년부터 초등학교 3학년 이상 과정에서 교과서에 漢字를 한글과 倂記하도록 한 것이다. 이것은 國語敎育의 올바른 이해와 발전을 위해 漢字․漢字語 敎育이 필요하다는 현실을 지각한 것으로 상당히 고무적인 행보이다. 이러한 교육적 상황에 맞추어 초등학교 漢字․漢字語敎育 방침을 아직 미개척 분야인 外國人을 위한 漢字․漢字語敎育과 연계하여 적용할 필요가 있다. 즉, 초등학교 漢字․漢字語 敎育을 위해 교과서에 병기되어질 漢字 400～500字를 外國人을 위한 基礎漢字로 삼고, 그 基礎漢字를 중심으로 基礎漢字語를 선정하는 것이 바람직하다. 또한 학습자의 수준별․목적별로 분류하고 이에 따라 漢字敎材를 편성하여 학습시킨다면 外國人을 위한 漢字․漢字語敎育은 韓國語 敎育의 일환으로써 충분한 당위성과 정체성을 확립할 수 있을 것이다. 이에 본고에서는 外國人을 위한 韓國語 敎育 체계를 확립시키기 위해 漢字․漢字語 敎育을 위한 學習者의 수준별 분류 모형을 새롭게 제시하고 이에 맞는 漢字敎材 편성을 위한 구체적인 방안을 모색하고자 한다.
Abstract
The aim of the present study is to propose a new approach to teaching Chinese characters and words to foreigners as part of teaching Korean as a second or foreign language by suggesting a model of classifying Chinese characters and words into different levels of learning difficulty and developing textbooks reflecting the classification. The present study comes at a time when the demand for Korean language education around the world is steadily rising partly as a result of the spread of the so-called "Korean Wave". This contrasts with the nation's low rank among the OECD nations in literacy and vocabulary competency. The situation calls for a new approach to teaching the Korean language not only to foreigners but also to Korean speakers. In this regard, it is encouraging that the new 2015 guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Education for school curricular emphasize Chinese character education as a key element of teaching the Korean language in schools. The guidelines attribute the low of linguistic communicative and vocabulary competency among students to a lack of effective Chinese character education and mandate the use of Chinese characters in school textbooks for students in Grade 3 and above, beginning in 2018, Under the guidelines, a selection of 400 to 500 Chinese characters will be incorporated into textbooks for Grade 3 and 4 students in 2018 and for Grade 5 and 6 in 2019. This important change in school curricular needs to be linked to teaching Chinese characters and words to foreigners as part of teaching Korean as a second or foreign language. The 400 to 500 Chinese characters to be incorporated into school textbooks for Korean elemen- tary students can also serve as the basic set of Chinese characters to be taught to foreigners in stages according to different levels of Korean language acquisition. This link will reinforce the significance of teaching Chinese characters to foreigners as a key element of teaching Korean as a second or foreign language. In this contxt, the present paper suggests a model of classification of Chinese characters into different levels of learning difficulty and a methodology for developing textbooks for teaching Chinese characters to foreigners on the basis of the classification model.
