대학 교양한문 교육과 인성교육 -論語 세미나 수업 모형을 중심으로-

본고는 論語 세미나 수업의 예를 통해 대학 교양한문 수업에서 지향해야 할 인성교육은 무엇인가, 그리고 그것을 어떠한 과정으로 실시하는 것이 효과적인가 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 2015년 1월, “인성교육진흥법”이 제정, 시행되고 있는바 이 법은 특정 가치의 일방적 전수를 지향한다는 점에서 문제가 있다. 대학에서의 인성교육은 다양한 가치의 탐색 과정을 통해 이루어져야 하며 대학 교양한문 교육에서의 인성교육 또한 궤를 같이해야 한다. 『論語』는 동양 문화의 근간을 이루는 핵심 가치들을 다양하게 포함하고 있다. 필자는 ‘욕망’, ‘효도’, ‘언행’ 등과 같은 다양한 주제를 설정하고, 해당 주제와 관련이 있는 지문을 『論語』에서 편집하여 그 가치들에 대해 논의하는 과정으로 논어 세미나 수업을 진행해오고 있다. 표면적으로는 강독을 통한 지문 이해, 연관 주제에 대한 토의를 통해 학생들로 하여금 다양한 가치에 대해 탐색하게 하고 다양한 가치를 인정하고 포용하는 능력을 배양하도록 수업을 설계, 운용하였다. 그 과정에서 학생들은 부차적으로 한문 원문을 강독하는 이점을 체득하거나 한문 독해 능력 향상과 같은 효과도 거두게 되었다. 이러한 세미나형 수업은 한문에 대한 수강생의 부담을 줄이고 다양한 가치를 탐색하는 과정을 통해 인성교육이 이루어질 수 있다는 장점이 있으며 한문 독해 능력 향상과 같은 교육 효과도 부차적으로 거둘 수 있다. 세미나형 수업이 온전히 이루어지기 위해서는 20명 내외의 소규모 강좌로 운영되어야 한다. 그러나 지금의 한국 대학 현실에서 그러한 환경은 요원하다 할 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 精讀을 지향하고, 학생들로 하여금 그룹 활동을 통해 다양한 가치들에 대한 동료들의 의견에 귀 기울이게 하는 경험은 대형 강좌에서도 불가능한 것은 아니다. 차후 인성교육에 주안하여 대학 한문교육을 실시한다면 이러한 세미나 형태의 수업을 지향해야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine what kind of character education should be aimed at the liberal arts class in university and how it can be carried out in the seminar class. In January 2015, the “Character Education Promotion Act” was enacted and enforced. This law is problematic in that it aims to unilaterally transfer certain values. Character education in the university should be done through the process of exploring various values. Character education in classical Chinese education as a general education in university should also be the same way. “Lunyu(論語)”, the analects of Confucius contains various core values that form the basis of Oriental culture. I set up a topic on the basis of values, edited passages related to the topic, and discussed the values of them. The course was designed and operated with diverse value exploration courses through understanding of the passages through readings on the surface and discussions related to the topic. In the process, the students gain the advantage of reading the texts of Chinese texts in addition, and have the same effect as the ability of reading Chinese texts. This seminar type class has the advantage that the character education can be done through the process of reducing the burden of learners about Chinese characters and exploring various values, and the educational effect such as the improvement of the Chinese reading comprehension ability can be secondary. In order for the seminar type classes to be fully realized, it is assumed that they should be operated as small lectures of about 20 people. However, in the reality of Korean universities nowadays, such an environment can be an faraway something. Nonetheless, the experience of pursuing reading and listening to colleagues' opinions on various values through group activities is not impossible in large lectures. If we are conducting a classical Chinese education at a university with the aim of character education in the future, we should aim to teach this type of seminar.
