중등학교 한문과 교육의 실태－한문과 교원수 변동양상을 중심으로

Abstract

This paper examines the current status of Chinese Classics education in secondary schools and changes in the number of Chinese Classics teachers in order to find new directions in the current time when the curriculum is being revised. From the establishment of the subject of Chinese Classics during the third curriculum to the seventh curriculum, the number of Chinese Classics teachers increased significantly from the increase of total teachers. It was the result of the continuous recruitment of teachers with Chinese Classics certificates after the establishment of the curriculum. However, from 2011, when the revised education course was applied, the number of Chinese Classics teachers in middle school started to drop sharply. This is due to changes in how the curriculum operates. In middle school, the number of students in charge of Chinese Classics education dropped sharply amid the decrease in number of classes in Chinese Classics education programs and the decrease in class hours in Chinese Classics, which is a representative subject of intensive experience. Beginning in 2018, when the revised education course will be applied, the reduction in the number of non-prescription Chinese Classics will be further strengthened at school sites due to the nationwide implementation of the free school semester system and the compulsory implementation of 136 hours of school sports club activities. The search for new directions in Chinese Classics education should be based on a clear understanding of the current situation with Chinese Classics, which is highly volatile due to the structure of education courses and changes in operation.
