한문학 데이터 편찬 교육의 실제 -고려대 한문학과의 <한문학데이터큐레이션> 강의 사례를 중심으로-

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the development of new courses centered around the humanities at universities, with a focus on bridging the gaps of cultural approaches and digital technology. These courses are often referred to as “digital humanities courses.” However, within the field of Sino-Korean Literature, it remains challenging to find examples of courses designed with comprehensive digital humanities education in mind. Unlike other humanities disciplines, Sino-Korean Literature studies tend to emphasize traditional methods of reading and understanding classical texts. Consequently, the importance of traditional approaches to handling and utilizing texts in an analog environment is still paramount, and there has been limited movement towards applying digital environments or data processing technologies. Against this backdrop, the ‘Sino-Korean Literature Data Curation’ course, officially introduced as an undergraduate major course in the Department of Sinographic Literatures at Korea University in the first semester of 2021, stands out as particularly unique. This course represents a full-fledged digital Sino-Korean Literature curriculum aimed at providing students with foundational knowledge in data processing technology specific to Sino-Korean Literature and the accompanying digital environment. This article delves into the implications of the ‘Sino-Korean Literature Data Curation’ course as a pioneering digital humanities course within the Sino-Korean Literature discipline. It focuses on two main elements: data (what) and curation (how). By examining specific examples, we explore how a novel form of Sino-Korean Literature education, which interactively engages students through the process of data compilation, can be effectively realized in a digital environment, moving beyond the traditional model of merely transmitting knowledge.
