초록

This study begins with the reflection on the previous research outcomes, which understood Tongsinsa visit performed in Tsusima in 1811 as the good-neighbor policy through Tongsinsa diplomacy and the last cultural exchange between Korea and Japan. This study illuminates that the tradition of cultural exchange between Korea and Japan was linked to Sinsayuramdan through Ilsajypryak and Donghaengilrok. Ilsajypryak and Donghaengilrok were recorded about the envoy visit in 1881 by Sinsayuramdan, which was dispatched to Japan by the secret order of King Gojong, who recognized the necessity of enlightenment policy. They are produced to deliver the uniqueness of the envoy visit to Japan and to display the authors'own literary talent. The examination of the records on the envoy visit showes that Sinsayurandan inherited the tradition of Tongsinsa's mutual exchange by the literary persons in both countries through music and paintings, etc., as well as literary exchange through conversation by writing and creative paintings of poetry and prose. However, it was proven that the scale of Sinsayuramdan's cultural exchange shrank or weakened compared to Tongsinsa. This is because unlike Tongsinsa consisted of remarkable men of letters, arts and artistic talents such as Jesulgwan, scriber, doctor, and painter. Sinsayuramdan was composed of government officials, thereby making diverse cultural exchanges except literary exchange shut off from the start. Taking this fact into account, Sinsayuramdan can be assessed to have successfully inherited the tradition of mutual cultural exchange through envoy visit until modern times. As a consequence, when discussing the history on the cultural exchange between Korea and Japan through envoy visit, Sinsayuramdan has to be included without fail.
