일부다처제가 허용된 헤이안시대의 여성들에게 있어 청각은 귀중한 감각의 하나이다. 『사라시나닛키』에는 어떠한 소리가 표현되어 있는 것일까?본고는 『사라시나닛키』에 그려진 ‘오토(音）와 ’고에(声)‘의 단어가 사용된 장면을 중심으로 작자의 청각세계를 고찰한 것이다. 작자의 청각세계는 상경기에는 비나 바람과 같이 소리를 동반한 자연에 대해서 직접적인 청각 표현이 거의 없고 분명 듣고는 있지만 기후로서 기록되어 있을 뿐 그다지 관심을 보이지 않는다. 작품의 전반부에는 자연 속에서 청각과 시각적 자연을 동시에 감수할 경우 시각이 청각보다 우세하여 시각적으로 받아들인 경향이 강하다. 하지만 뒤로 갈수록 소리에 대한 관심이 많아지고 간접적인 소리를 포함하여 다양한 소리가 나타난다. 소리를 사람의 말소리(声)와 새나 바람과 같은 자연의 소리, 사물 등의 인공적인 소리(音)를 포함하여 포괄적으로 생각하면 『사라시나닛키』에는 모노가타리나 전설 등을 이야기하는 사람들의 말소리가 가장 많이 기록되어 있다고 할 수 있다. 작품 전체를 통해 소리의 단어가 들어간 와카가 많지는 않지만 다양하고, 『사라시나닛키』에 그려진 자연의 소리는 분명 와카의 중요한 소재로써 의미가 깊다고 할 수 있다. 고에(声)는 사람들이 모노가타리를 이야기하는 말소리나 유녀의 노랫소리, 꿈에서 스님의 계시나 아미타불의 음성 등 문학과 신비롭고 신성한 종교와 관련된 소리에 사용된 특징을 보인다.
Abstract
For women in the Heian period, when polygamy was permitted, hearing was one of their precious senses. What kind of sounds are expressed in 『Sarashina Nikki』? This paper examines the author's auditory world, focusing on scenes in which the words "oto" (sound) and "koe" (voice) are used in "Sarashina Nikki."The novel contains few direct auditory expressions of nature, such as the sounds of rain or wind, in the author's auditory world. Although he clearly hears them, they are recorded as weather, and he does not show much interest in them. In the first half of the work, the visual sense dominates the auditory sense when the author experiences both auditory and visual aspects of nature simultaneously, leading to a strong tendency to perceive nature visually. But as time goes on, interest in sound increases, and various sounds, including indirect sounds, appear. Despite the limited number of waka poems with sound-related words in the entire work, they exhibit diversity, and the sounds of nature in 『Sarashina Nikki』 are undoubtedly significant as important waka subjects. The voice shows characteristics used in sounds related to literature and mystical and sacred religion, such as the voices of people telling a story, the singing of a courtesan, the revelations of a monk in a dream, or the voice of Amitabha.
